Time Management

How often do we wish that the day had more than 24 hours? But we can’t have it. The answer is proper time management. Time management is the ability to use one’s time effectively or productively. Here are some tips that will help you to organize yourself better. But the most important thing to keep in mind is Never put off for tomorrow what you can do today.

It’s not about how much time you have, it’s about how effectively you manage your time.

These tips apply for everyone whether you are a homemaker or a working person.

The importance of plans and lists
Planning your day and making lists may take some of your time but it helps to sort out your thoughts and put things in order of priority. Preferably make your “TO DO” list in the morning.

Plan your day
An established routine gives us best results. Each activity fits together into the next one for a smooth changeover from one task to the other. You need a year planner for the master plan and a daily planner for the day to day routine. Put these up in an accessible place.

The master plan
To keep track of the various events( of family or of workplace)- like birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, assignments that have to meet deadlines- put up a large poster. This can be used by other family members for their entries too, so everyone has some idea of what the others are doing. Similarly, for office work, you can either put your Master planner on your desk so that it is in front of your eyes all the time. Alternatively you can make it on Google sheets on your laptop/desktop and save it on google drive so that it is accessible on your mobile as well.

The master plan is where you enter your long term plans. For a homemaker things like house cleaning, summer and winter clothes to be taken out and aired, annual day in school or annual holiday plan etc. For working person income tax returns to be filed, attending your daily/weekly/monthly meetings or sending reports as per deadlines and other important events of his/her workplace. A yearly plan also helps if you have major projects in hand. It helps to space out assignments so you can devote reasonable time to each one.

Your companion notebook
Your notebook should have all the important numbers and reminder pages. For example, if you have sent for monthly provisions, make a note against the day when payment is to be made.

Keep a section for any ideas like books you want to read, movie you want to watch, people to visit, messages you have to send.

Now all these things can easily be done on your mobile phone using various functions and features of mobile phone..

At the start of the week, plan for the week ahead. But all this is not to say that you should be slave to time. Remember that organizing yourself gives you more time to relax and enjoy those moments of fun.

Good time management enables an individual to complete more in a shorter period of time.
